Why do we have such a problem with Atheists, when we "Christians" have caused half of the problem?
I come across so many posts of Christians posting "Why are Atheists so stupid?" and vice versa. Both have this attitude. Christians, I am one of you but stuff like THIS is the reason we are hated! Well, part of the reason. We will be hated anyways because of who we are, regardless. But stuff like this doesn’t help us out any! I do not agree with Atheists, but I don’t HATE them. I think they post some pretty ridiculous, non-relevant answers most days, but oh well. I used to wonder why atheists hate us so much, I bet stuff like this is most of the reason why. So I no longer ask that question, seems we’ve brought it on ourselves. We are supposed to LOVE. We are not perfect, we don’t claim to be but we still have to love everyone, regardless of who they are. I love gay people, even though I don’t agree with their lifestyle. They are people, they have feelings, we’re still supposed to love them. Same with Atheists, Wiccans, ANYONE. I hate that this is very possibly the reason so many people scoff at Christianity. I am to blame just as bad as everyone else, this needs to stop! God didn’t tell us to criticize. There is nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious and witnessing, but condemning and other junk needs to stop. Jesus pointed out to the Samaritan woman at the well (in the book of John) that she had had 5 husbands, and that the man she lived with wasn’t her husband. He didn’t condemn her. He was kind to her and offered her eternal life. We don’t need people having false assumptions about God and Christianity. No wonder so many people are still lost! Just something to think about, something I’ve wondered.
-I hate that so many unbelievers have dealt with stuff like this. Trust me, there are people out there who follow God and earnestly try to live up to His standards, to love others. They are definitely better than I, i can’t claim that for myself. But not all Christians are the way you think they are, based on some that you have met. Please do not make your choice about us based on that.
So why are we so confused, why are we scratching our heads as to WHY we’re being called "hypocrites"?
eelfins, in a way you’re right. We need to get the truth out to Atheists and others, and they will hate to hear it. They will hate us for it. But we don’t have to reciprocate that attitude. We are supposed to be above that, on a more mature, "godly" level. That’s all I’m saying.
Pirate, you’re speaking in riddles. Enlighten me, what is so immoral about God and doing what is right? I’m curious. 
I am that cat} Jesus said in His Word that His followers would be hated, just as He was. He was scoffed at, and treated terribly as he was imprisoned and scourged, he was spit on, etc. All because He told people He was the Son of God. He warned us that we would be hated. I think this is because we have morals. We believe His Word, how it says not to sleep with someone you’re not married to, not to sleep with the same sex as you are, etc. People hate that we believe that, and encourage them to do likewise. For their own sake-that they will be saved and not condemned. People don’t want to hear it, that the way they are living is wrong. And because people think that we believe we are better than others. Another assumption. We are God’s people but we are not better than everyone else. We mess up too. You cannot argue that we are hated. And I agree with you, I am sure that Atheists (this is all too obvious) and other religions are hated. But we were told that we would be hated, and we are.
Thank you so much for saying this. We Christians are supposed to fight things peacefully. That is what Martin Luther King did and God helped the black nation. He was a priest who promoted peaceful protest, he was reminding angry blacks to remain calm and pray, and look it worked! Why didn’t Jesus kill everyone who tried to crucify him? Instead he forgave them, now if Christians are supposed to be like Jesus then why say things like "You stupid atheist just all shut up"? By doing this we are being perhaps even worse.
When Jesus was preaching he was constantly making reference to the fact that the Rabbis were being hypocrites, why was this so stressed? Because he knew that one day this would be his follower’s greatest flaw.
